Hey guys. Happy holidays! Uuuh thanks for supporting the music through the years. These songs have been longing for your ears, so let them feast. We went through many revisions until the songs came out the way they were supposed to be written: perfect. Think of this album as wine; aged to perfection. Also, a big, thick, and juicy thank you to all the past members. Without you guys, we would not have not done a lot of gigs after junior and Jman left. Anyway. Enough words from me. Enjoy

-Jordan S.

I consider Guam my home now but it wasn’t always like this. I left this beautiful Island when I was 6 years old and spent 10 years in California. When talking to my Grandparents on Guam, they would always ask me on the phone, no matter what the occasion is, “Boy, when are you coming back to Guam? We got a room for you.” So after years of constant nagging by them and my older brother, I took this opportunity and came to Guam when I was 16. Adjusting to a new life and school could have been hard, but it wasn’t. I had a loving family at home, and at school I made musical connections that had granted me friends for life. If I knew that 1st band class at GW would have made me friends that I would have adventures and memories for the next 10 years, I would have never believed it. So when I left Guam my senior year and my mom asked me what I wanted to do after high school, the only clear option in my mind was to go back Guam.

With the release of our album, it is a bookend to some of the greatest moments of my life with some of the best people I know. Please enjoy this release like we do. Big Si Yu’os Ma’ase to all the Fries, past and present, all the people who have enjoyed our music and shows (friends and family,) and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. Thank you for making this trombone player so happy.

I hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas, and I hope it gets even better with this sudden release! After 6 painstakingly long years, we finally got the courage and drive to release the long awaited Freedom Fries album! Let me tell you, this album process was a whirlwind of an experience—with multiple re-recordings, drama, technological failures, and flat-out hesitance. It got to the point where we just left things unfinished and slowly let it fade, however with the success of Fat Tofu’s EP, the Ff album started to gnaw at me again. With Doug Chan’s departure, I asked Jordan Hardy to help complete what was left, and boy did he step up to the task. I decided to set a deadline for Christmas. It was a tall order, but I told myself if we pushed it back even further, then we might as well not release the album at all, and after listening to these old tunes again I figured it would be a travesty to just keep them hidden away in the studio. I feel that every song is good enough to be the album’s single with each telling a different story—Junior’s struggle to find himself (Get Out), the legendary house party series “Moistland” and how the 4th iteration changed drinking on Guam forever (PML4), or even something as lovely as Krystal’s summer romance (Summertime).

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to complete every single song in time for Christmas, thus the Side A name. Don’t fret! We’ll be releasing Side B soon, and after that maybe a physical CD with all of the songs put together.

I’m getting goosebumps just typing this all out. I really hope you enjoy this, and I’m sorry it took so long to get out. I want to thank everyone who has supported us through the years, everyone who’s ever played with us, and most especially to Doug and Jordan H. Love you guys. When I think about the best days of my youth, I think about Freedom Fries, and to able to share those memories with you all is a Christmas miracle indeed.
